Abstract:

Public beaches that the DOH recomends for potential shellfish harvesting. Updated on 5/11/2012.

Purpose:

This dataset is used to display open, closed and advisory beaches. It also supports the Shellfish Biotoxin Program mapping site at <http://ww4.doh.wa.gov/gis/mapping.htm>.

Supplemental_Information:

Not all public beaches are contained in this dataset. Only public recreational beaches that DOH monitors for shellfish harvesting are included. The Office of Shellfish and Water Protection monitors water quality and changes the status of these beaches on a regular basis.

These beaches were originally created using the MapInfo software in the early 1990's. They were converted into ESRI coverage format and projected into the current coordinate system. Edits have been submitted from WDFW staff and DOH Food Safety and Shellfish staff.
