Abstract:

Regions depict Wellhead Protection Zones for Group B wells. Wellhead protection areas in this layer do not have assigned time of travel distances, so an arbitrary 1000 foot buffer is created around the source. Time of travel data was obtained from the Washington State Department of Health. Group B wells generally serve few people and are not subject to Federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) regulations.

Purpose:

This data set is used as a reference layer for geographic information systems to approximate time of travel distances for wellhead protection areas.

Process_Description:

Many well locations were determined by utilizing GPS to establish precise geographic coordinates. Other well location points were generated as centroids from section or quarter-quarter section well location data provided by the Washington State Department of Health. The Arc/Info AML used to generate centroids was provided by the Washington State Department of Ecology. The data set was built as a point coverage in Arc/Info and then projected to geographic coordinates. An ESRI shape file was then created.
